With a challenge of this magnitude, we want to pool our resources together. We need a cooperative spirit. Our goal must be kingdom building and not empire building. To see different organizations working together is in itself an encouragement.

It is a venture to organize a series of compact yet high-impact events across major Canadian centres aimed at helping Canadian Asian Christians to live out their faith in the workplace. It is our hope that each of the events will act a focal point where interaction and networking can occur. This will, in turn, serve as a stimulus or catalyst for further dialogue and group learning.

Breakthrough, Hong Kong"Project Contempo" is a movement: calling, gathering, equipping a new generation of Christians from different professions, to be light and ambassadors for Christ in the market place."

In my interaction with Christian Canadian Asian young career people, I sense their desire to follow Jesus Christ amidst work pressure, cultural differences, and various challenges in family, church, and society. Project Contempo is an important ministry addressing these issues and encouraging us to be committed followers of Jesus Christ, living out our faith in every avenue of life. This ministry already has and will continue to have a great impact upon local churches and the overall Kingdom of God. I enthusiastically endorse the ministry of Project Contempo.

When I learned of Project Contempo from Dr. Clement Yeung in Winnipeg in 8/2004, I was touched by the passion with which he appealed to us the audience. In March/2005 just a few days ago, to my amazement, a Canadian Christian scholar in ethnic ministries has already pointed out in his writings last year that the Chinese churches are in danger of edging toward an anaemic state because their youngsters have been bleeding away from attending church. Therefore, this Project could not have come at a better time than this. None but the Lord could have orchestrated this Project through Dr. Yeung.

When a young person transitions from university life into the professional world, I have often observed that the spiritual aspect of their life lapses in the face of the new demands of their profession. The various university Christian groups that provided discipleship and Christian fellowship are left behind, often with nothing to help the young professionals take the next step of representing Christ in the professional world. I am thrilled to learn that Project Contempo will provide just such a resource to young English-speaking Chinese professionals in Canada. There is a great need for this ministry and I look forward to seeing it flourish.

Centre for Evangelism & World MissionThe Canadian-born Asian Christian professionals are a relatively untapped resource to function as "salt and light" in their workplaces and society. Project Contempo events provide the motivation and equipping needed. You have a winning keynote speaker in Rev. Ken Fong for the kick-off event on October 1, 2005.

I have known and have had a close working relationship with Dr. Clement Yeung for over 20 years. Dr. Yeung is an unique mix of passion for the Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom, an outstanding visionary and strategist, and an energetic leader who is ever moving forward. A founder and former president of The Winnipeg Chinese Christian Business and Professional Association he also led in founding the Canada-wide association of similar name. And now my friend Clement has seized the opportunity to give leadership in birthing Project Contempo, a venture dedicated to mobilising young Canadian-born Asian Christian professionals to live out their faith in the marketplace. I unhesitatingly and wholeheartedly commend this ministry and Dr. Yeung to your prayerful support.

It is with pleasure that I heartily recommend this conference because it addresses a critical area in our lives. The average North American will spend a minimum of 80,000 hours - or 10,000 days - preoccupied with work. Even though we spend decades preparing for work, and then more decades actually doing it, most people spend very little time thinking through their perspective and purpose of work. The truth is, we cannot afford to ignore the reality and the importance of work. The great news is that God's Word tackles the whole issue head on. This conference will help you put your work in perspective, and help you be a better, more focused, and more satisfied worker.

The last two decades have seen a dramatic dissipation and decline in many Asian churches. Many raised in Christian homes have sadly drifted to unbelief or spiritual indifferences after reaching adulthood. More in our circles have never heard of the salvation of Jesus Christ. I am glad that Project Contempo has taken up a clarion call for the second-or-third-generation Canadian born Asian Christians to make a difference by practicing biblical priesthood in our daily living. This project is long due.

In your lifetime you will spend about 40% (or more) of your waking hours 'on the job.' Will those hours be spent in frustration or fulfillment? This depends largely on how you fit your job into the totality of your life. What is the Christian view of work and how can we deal with the frustrations and challenges of our life at work?
These are questions that go through the head of most people in my congregation. It's where 'the rubber hits the road.' This is why I'm so thankful that God has raised up the vision for Project Contempo. I heartily endorse its vision and leadership team, and commend it to all Christian career people (regardless of age or ethnicity). Come and be blessed!

As a ministry targeting one of the weakest links among the Chinese Christian circles, Project Contempo is one I would strongly support. I also have no reservation to stand behind Dr. Clement Yeung & the leadership team to promote & plan for this project.
May the Lord empower & use them mightily to minister to this vital group for His Kingdom at this crucial age.

Reverend Ted Ng
Director of Chinese Church Mission PartnershipsOur society promotes the compartmentalization between a person's Christian faith from their daily work or career. Such a separation of the spiritual identity from the rest of life is a dangerous practice that eventually leads to the disintegration of one's soul. Project Contempo runs against the grain of our culture and calls us to live with integrity and wholeness as God's people.
